Fairest of the Fair

Luci has a Maisy Mouse book where Maisy and her friends go to the fair. We read it all the time and Luci has been asking since Christmas to go to the fair. That is a problem since the fair usually comes the last week of August...that is a LONG time to wait when you are 3...4! To replicate the activities in the book we have eaten cotton candy, made many trips to Boingo Bounce for jumping in bouncy castles, and ridden the carousel at the zoo. None of it quenched Luci's desire for the fair!!! Thankfully the end of August arrived and so did the fair!!!

We went Saturday afternoon and as soon as Luci spotted the ferris wheel rising in the distance her eyes began to sparkle and she yelled "There it is!!!"

We bought our tickets and headed straight for the ferris wheel. Luci barely met the height requirement but Jason wasn't about to take no for an answer so they got their ride. She was absolutely DELIGHTED!

We also rode the teacups (a dizzying experience for Momma), the carousel, and a dragon roller coaster.

We also had to eat a funnel cake and cover ourselves with powdered sugar! Deliciousness!!!

We checked out all the livestock and found that the goats and calves enjoyed the leftover powdered sugar from the funnel cakes as much as we did!

If you have followed our blog very much or checked out my pictures on Facebook you can't help but notice the absolute joy on Luci's face on every occasion! I adore experiencing new things through her eyes and I think we could all take a few lessons on happiness from this child! No wonder Jesus loved being around children...it is so easy to see the goodness in everything!

Picture post: Down at the farm

Luci and I spent the weekend at the farm with Grandma and Grandpa while Jason spent the weekend at a conference in Virginia. We had a nice relaxing time and Luci experienced playing with kittens for the first time. Enjoy the pictures!

Four!!! Can you believe it?!?!?!

Two out of three in this house celebrated being another year older...well I celebrated them too! It is hard to believe my baby turned 4 years old Monday and that Jason is right in the middle of the thirties! Each year I think it can't possibly get any better but each year it does!

Luci as a three year old was fun and I am sure four will be even better! She wouldn't even acknowledge she was three until about a week ago. Up until that point when asked how old she was she would reply "I'm gonna be this many at my birthday!" (holding up 4 fingers). About a week ago she told me she didn't want to be four; she just wanted to stay little. Even now, with all the birthday excitement she won't tell people she is four...she will only hold up her fingers.

A few other Luci antedotes...
*She loves her stuffed animals (still)! Her favorite has changed though...no longer does Awkie the Elephant go everywhere with us; we now have Winter the Dolphin with us at all times. (the inspiration for the name came from the movie Dolphin Tale.)

*She has become a complete girlie girl...wants princess everything, "dollies" galore, wears only dresses and nightgowns, begs for a pink room, and twirls around the room like a ballerina. I don't know where this came from but she sure is fun!!!

*She loves to read, draw, paint, and play outside.

*She is incredibly bashful and will tell me ahead of time (when going somewhere new) "I going to be a little bit shy."

*Around family she is a complete ham and wild as can be!

*Has begun asking questions about babies and where they come from since this is front and central in her mind with the anticipated arrival of a new cousin. Most of the questions are funny but some are questions I'm not quite prepared for. The funniest one from the other day was "How Aunt Sherri gonna eat if she's got a baby in her tummy?"

*She loves to sing and her versions of songs are hilarious!
"You are my sunshine. Only my sunshine. You make me happy...skies are grey. You never know dear how I much you...please don't take my sunshine away. (dramatic, drawn out finish) Please don't taaaakkkkke...my...sunshine...aaaaaaawwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy!". (Ta-da arms)

*She is a very loving girl who enjoys being close and spending time with those she loves. She has the sweetest heart and when she thanks you it is sincere and heartfelt. She LOVES her people and worries about them when they aren't around...asking where they are right now and when she will see them again.

I simply do not see how it is possible to love this girl any more...but I will tomorrow and more again the next day and the next...

Thank you Jesus for blessing our family in so many ways!!!

Saturday morning

We love living in Fayetteville! The pace of life, the people, the places...Saturday mornings are especially enjoyable! There are so many great local breakfast joints. We began this morning at Penguin Ed's. Below Luci is posing with Home Frie, Penguin Ed's latest addition to their collection.

Then we headed to the Farmer's Market...love that place! Happy Saturday all!

Weekend at Big Flat

We haven't spent near enough time at Dad and Mom's farm at Big Flat. We decided it was about time we spend a weekend there and even though the river is unbelievably low for the first of June, we decided we needed a canoe trip as well!

We left Friday night and Luci got to experience cotton candy for the first time at dinner!

After consuming more sugar than usual we continued on our way and was Luci ever wound up when we got there!!! We arrived a few minutes before Dad and Mom so Luci welcomed them to their own home by leaping, screaming, and cheering in the driveway.

The next morning we loaded up the boats and headed to the river. We played in the water LOTS and Luci took turns riding in different boats. We always have a blast on the river!

Waiting for Daddy and Grandpa to get back from shuttling vehicles so we can head down river!
Spinning in the water with Momma
Taking a turn riding in Grandma and Grandpa's boat
Catching the current with her purple noodle (and Daddy)

We ended the day with some homemade ice cream back at the farm. Another great trip!!!

Summa-time!!

Have I mentioned just how much I LOVE summer time??!!!

Take today for example...Luci and I headed to Crystal Bridges Museum for their monthly preschool play date. What fun!!! The museum had loads of activities just for kiddos 5 and under! Luci painted, hula-hooped, played parachute games, sang songs, and explored the museum grounds without being told not to touch! How much better can it get?! We ended the hot afternoon with a sno-cone. Pretty awesome summer day, if you ask Luci and me!!!!

Hope your summer is at least half this awesome!

It's blueberry time!

One of my favorite things about summer is the abundance of fresh blueberries. Deliciousness!!!

Luci and I visited the blueberry patch this afternoon and picked two gallons. She started out as such a huge helper; picking only the bluest berries. She picked enough to cover the bottom of her bucket and then sat down and began to eat...and eat...and eat (reminded me of Little Sal in Blueberries for Sal). When she tired of eating she began to scoot down the rows on her belly, saying "excuse me" to the branches that got in her way. Needless to say, by the time we (I) had picked two gallons, Luci was filthy!!!

The bushes were absolutely loaded so I know the season will last a while...we will be back for more! I have already been on the lookout for new blueberry recipes in anticipation of the season. My Pinterest recipe board has so many tasty possibilities that we will have to go back for more berries.
